I am not one to “should” all over people. I try my best to avoid “should-ing” on myself. The “should” in this title is meant to offer a few considerations rather than rules about the practices of Psychic/Medium/Intuitive readings. Having said that “should” allow me to add that, as a Psychic/Medium myself, sometimes I do include future predictions in readings. When I do, I try to explain the following points of warning. And of course, when I do give estimations of future events, it is because I feel that Spirit is leading me to do so. The following are some of the reasons why I avoid predicting the future. Many of my colleagues have expressed similar views this about this “should” so I hope this article provides insight for you to take into your next reading.

Everyone has Free Will
Free will allows us to change our minds, moment to moment. As we exercise our limitless choice-making power, not only do we impact future events but we also mold our own beliefs. As our beliefs change, so do our highly nuanced desires. Students of the Law of Attraction may be familiar with the concept of personal vibration. Abraham-Hicks says, “Every thought that you think is vibrating at a very personal frequency and by the powerful Law of Attraction (the essence of that which is like unto itself, is drawn), that thought is now attracting another thought that is its Vibrational Match.”[1]

Our thoughts affect our beliefs and vice versa, and both affect our personal vibration. In essence, personal vibration is the frequency that we emit to the Universe proclaiming our desires. With all the variables affected by free will, the future is quite a moving target! Add to that the fact that everyone is dancing the same free-will-jig and everything we do involves others.

When an intuitive reads our potential future, it is just that: potential. That potentiality is based upon the absolute now, upon all of the current free will choices that have been made by everyone. From your partner, to your boss, to the clerk at the corner store, to your dog, everyone is making choices. We live in a sea of energy. Every decision made and action taken effects the All like a pebble tossed into a still pond. The expiration date of a prediction is possibly one second later. So what is the point of learning a future based upon fleeting circumstances?

Knowing the “Future” Can Slow Down Manifestation
Focusing on a specific time for a manifestation to occur can rob us of our motivation to take action in the direction of positive change. For example: suppose you desire a new job, one that inspires you and utilizes your gifts and potential. You learn from an intuitive reading that the perfect job opportunity is arriving in three months. “Great!” you may think, “I’ll just chill until that perfect job knocks on my door!” I am exaggerating, of course, but in the meantime, you could be less than motivated to take action steps today if you feel that an event is certain to occur on a future date. “I have three months, so why bother updating my résumé today?” When you received your prediction, we could assume that you were committed to creating a new job opportunity; that is why you asked. An assumption that the future is a sure thing can undo all of the vibration that aligned you with the manifestation in the first place.

While in the gap of waiting for a prediction to materialize, today we are emitting the frequency of “not now” Essentially, because we believe that the manifestation is coming later, we are telling the Universe that we do not want our desire today. As we hold off taking action steps due to our future focus, we could also be blind to opportunities that appear right before our eyes.

Remember the parable of the man who waited for God to rescue him from a flood? The man had a vision of God reaching down from the sky and rescuing him. Subsequently, the man turned down three offers of rescue from a truck, a boat and a helicopter, and so he perishes. In heaven, God tells the man that his salvation was offered by those three different means.

The man in this story was focused upon the particulars and missed the miracles. I find the word “particular” interesting as it is directly related to contracted energy, that is, particles. Miracles happen upon expanded energy, waves. Asking miracles to perform on a schedule is contrary to the nature of free-form creativity. Why ask Infinite Intelligence – that which supersedes illusion of time – about time? Why hold eternity to a particular timetable?

I think that the feeling of complete surprise when a miracle occurs is one of the more delightful experiences that life offers. Spiritual seekers learn that in the process of manifesting desires, the most crucial step is possibly the one that follows placing our request to the Universe. That is the step of releasing our grasp upon the request to the point that we don’t care if we receive it. “This or something better,” is an excellent way to end a request to the Universe. Because, while it will be great to have a new job in three months, wouldn’t it be exhilarating to have your dream job in two weeks? Maybe that is the miracle that the Universe is preparing for you.

If You’re Asking, then You Shouldn’t Be Asking
There I go again, spreading that “should” around! What I mean is that when we are focused on the time frame of change, then it is a sign that we could use a shift in perception.

“A miracle is a shift in perception from fear to love.”[2] – Marianne Williamson

Love is patient and fear is impatient. Love knows that, “the Universe is always conspiring for my success.” Love believes in perfect timing, so if I don’t have my desire now, it is because it and I are being prepared.

But fret not because I have a handy tip! When you have the urge to ask a psychic, “When?” Stop and ask, “How how do I align with my desire?” This is a higher vibrational question, one that is more centered in faith, the present, you as the creator, the Universe as the provider and Unity as the higher truth.

But My Psychic was Right!
Perhaps you have had a psychic prediction that occurred exactly as it was given. If so and if that made you happy, congratulations! I have had such experiences on both sides of a reading. These are wonderful experiences that deserve celebration and gratitude. Of course, Spirit knew exactly what would work out for us! However, allow me to explain at least one of the reasons why psychics do accurately predict the future: it is because people are reluctant to change!

According to neuroscientist Dr. Joe Dispenza, “you think 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts in one day. Out of those 60-70,000 thoughts that you think in one day, 90 percent of those thoughts are the same thoughts as the day before.”[3]. Spiritual seekers embrace the fact that thoughts become things. However, if we rarely use our free will to change our thoughts, then we are not creating a new future. And that future is easy to predict!

As we endeavor to expand conscious awareness, we must ask questions from the Higher Mind, from the Universal Power within ourselves. This is how we align with the desires of our hearts and this is how we pursue enlightenment. Sometimes, a small pivot from “when” to “how” is all it takes.
